Report: SAT scores down; students not college ready
The average scores on two of three parts of the SAT were down last year according the College Board, the company that creates the college entrance exams. According to the annual report, critical reading and writing sections of the SAT fell one point each, to 496 and 488 respectively, while math scores were steady at 514. The College Board also reported that only 43% of last year's seniors were deemed "college ready". That score was unchanged from last year. In Mexico scores were comparable to those nationally. In 2011 and 2012, 84 Mexico students took the SAT. The average critical reading score was 497. In math - 500, and writing, 482. In New York State, the average scores were: critical reading - 483, math - 500, writing - 475. Also reported was the fact that more students took the ACT college entrance exam than took the SAT. This is the first time that has happened. The ACT is now taken by virtually all students in nine mid-west states under a state testing regimen. 360 students had perfect scores of 2,400.
